Quarterly for the common parts, annual for the flat entrance doors
For a multi-occupied residential building with storeys over 11 metres, the responsible person undertakes quarterly checks of all fire doors, including self-closing devices, in the common parts, and, on a best endeavour basis, annual checks of all flat entrance doors that lead onto the common parts. The page carries those two frequencies as the rule's own figures: four rounds a year for the common-part doors, one for the flat doors. For any other building the frequency is yours, from the risk assessment, and the page uses the figure you set.
What a check covers is the checklist
The fact sheet describes what an inspector considers: damage to glazing or air transfer grilles, gaps around the frame, the seals and hinges properly fitted, the closer working and the door closing correctly into the frame, and visible damage to the door or the closer. Twelve items per door covers that list with room for the door's identity and the sign-off, and the page multiplies it out so the record's size is known before the round starts.
Hours per year is the number the team plans around
Twenty-four common-part doors four times a year and sixty flat doors once, at six minutes each, is a known number of hours. That is the programme, and it decides whether the rounds are done by the caretaker between other duties or need a day set aside. The page prints it so the round is scheduled rather than hoped for.
